SADD Video & Meme Contest: Help Put an End to Distracted Driving

Our lawyers have seen firsthand how devastating a distracted driving accident can be. In June of 2013, the Tylers died less than an hour apart from one another after their vehicle was struck by a driver who was - just for a moment - distracted by a cell phone. Our law firm represented the Tylers’ estate, resulting in a $3 million settlement against the driver of the car and his employer. While the claim against the distracted driver was successful, there is no amount of money that can give loved ones back their family members when a car accident takes their life. Our law firm cares about taking action to stop distracted driving and prevent tragic accidents like the Tylers’. Distracted Driving Kills - Take Action Today Since the year 2005, more than 117,000 cell phone and distracted-driving related citations have been issued in the state of Connecticut, and fatal distracted driving-related crashes have cost the state more than $300 million. But the monetary costs are the smallest part of the problem; when a driver gets behind the wheel and uses a cell phone or is otherwise distracted, they risk their own life, and put others in danger of serious or fatal injuries as a result of an auto accident . SADD, which stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions, and EndDD (End Distracted Driving) are working hard to put a stop to distracted driving crashes in our state. The two organizations have partnered to sponsor a Video and Meme Contest with the theme: Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Distracted. The Details of the Video & Meme Contest Submitted videos or memes must be up to one minute in length, but no longer. The video should focus on the theme, “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Distracted,” or similar themes, including “It’s not cool to drive distracted,” “Distracted driving is selfish,” or “Distracted drivers can’t be defensive drivers,” and should be submitted in .jpg, .png., or .gif format. Only students from schools with SADD chapters are invited to participate in the contest. If your school does not have a SADD chapter, you should start one today! You can learn more about how to start a SADD chapter at SADD.org. A first, second, and third place prize will be given out to video creators, and there will be a separate prize category (with first, second, and third place prizes), for meme creators. For each category (meme vs. video), the prizes are as follows:

  • First place: $5,000 and four tickets to a 2017 concert of choice
  • Second place: $2,500
  • Third place: $1,000.
All submissions must be made by March 31, 2017. A video or meme submission must also include a submission of applicable forms (accessible online). You can read more about the contest and how to participate, as well as learn more about EndDD and SADD, by checking out the video and meme contest webpage.
